Setting Up Your Universe

Entering your universe for the first time

After installing your universe and browser, start your browser.

Enter your universe as the Administrator citizen #1 using the name and password sent to you by Activeworlds. Since there are no worlds
running yet, you will just see a blank black screen in the 3D window.
Citizen #1 is the "root" citizen of a universe and has
unrestricted access to all universe and world configuration options.
Be sure to carefully restrict access to this account! It is also recommended that you change the password from the one sent to you by Activeworlds.

Creating a world license for your first world

Before you can start your first world (and, in the Galxerver configuration, your only
world), you will have to create a license for it. Since you have just logged in
as citizen #1, you can now access the world license dialog. Go to the Options Menu in the browser and bring up the World License Dialog
by selecting Universe -> Worlds.

In the World License Dialog, decide on a name and password for you new world, and choose
an appropriate size and maximum user count. Enter this information into the dialog and
press "Add". You will now be able to run your first world server in this universe.

Installing and configuring the World Server

Download and install the latest Active Worlds Server. Complete instructions
for downloading, installing and configuring the World Server can be found
online in our world server documentation.

If you are installing the world server under Windows, during the installation you will be
asked for a name and password for the world. This will be the world name
and password you chose when you created the world license above. You will also be
asked for your citizen number. Since there is currently only one citizen
in your universe (you), enter "1".

After installing the World Server, you will have to carry out the
additional step of modifying the world.ini file so that the world server
knows how to find your UniServer. To do this, add the following 2 lines to
the world.ini file:

[universe]

host=domain name or IP address of the UniServer machine

where, again, the domain name or IP address is the address of your UniServer.

Starting your world server

Now, simply start your world server according to the installation instructions
for your OS platform. Under Windows, it may be already running
since the installer starts the server automatically. In that case,
simply stop the world server (by right-clicking on the globe icon in the
Windows system tray and selecting "Exit") and then start it again from
the Active Worlds Server program group. It will reload your new world.ini
settings.

Once your world is running, it should appear in the World List in the browser. If you are already running the browser, it will take up
to 60 seconds for the world name to first appear.

Adjusting the universe options

The last step is to fine tune your universe attribute settings. Go
to the Options Menu in the Active Worlds Browser
and select Universe -> Options. This brings up the Universe Attributes dialog. In this dialog, set the "Start world" field
to the name of the world you want people to start out in by default, which
is usually the name of the new world you just created above.

The proper settings for the various browser and world build numbers
change on a regular basis. They should be at least set to these values:

Minimum browser: 1004

Latest browser: 1005

Beta browser: 1006

Minimum world: 90

Latest world: 90

Beta world: 90

You are encouraged to check with support@planet3d.nl for a list of the most up to date values for these settings.

That's it! Your UniServer is now ready to receive its first citizens.
If you experience any difficulties during this set up procedure,
or have any additional questions about managing and adminstering your
new galaxerver or uniserver, please send email to support@planet3d.nl.
